Sage McGirk

Sage began his diving career April 1st, 1989 at Oak Marr Rec with the
Reston Dive Club, under the direction of Robert Ketrick. RDC was
later named Northern Virginia Dive club (NVDC). He dove 5 days a week
growing up, 2 of which were at Montgomery Aquatics, for platform
practice. His list of accomplishments include, 3 time high school
regional champion (having only dove 3 of 4 years), and high score
holder within the Liberty District. He was a multi juinior olympic
national qualifier, as well as qualifying for senior nationals. Sage was
awarded several athletic college scholarships to places like, BYU,
UPitt, and USC. He ultimately chose the University of South Carolina,
and attended the school for only one year. Sage retired in 1997 from
competitive diving, with the exception of a 6 month return in 2000 when he
qualified for US Diving Senior Nationals. In 2005 Sage moved to Orlando, Fl,
and became a professional acrobat, putting on diving, and trampoline
shows. He still perform today, and on rare occasions can be seen diving at
Oak Marr some 18 years after it all began.
John Barry grew up in Arlington, Virginia. John is currently the head dive coach at
American University. John learned how to swim and dive at Overlee Pool,
beginning in 1969. By the mid 1970’s, he was a dedicated diver, competing for

accident that took the life of his best friend.
John still lives in Arlington with his wife (Mouse) of 20 years, and his children,
Haley 16, and Carson 15. He coaches middle and high school diving and
believes that good coaches must connect a bit with each athlete to get them to
be as good as they want to be. He also thinks that candy can help bribe divers to
try new dives
