Dominion Dive Club Coaches
John Appleman






   John is entering his 5th year as the owner and head coach of Dominion Dive Club.
He began his coaching career with York Dive Club at the age of 16. He had been
coaching with the club for 8 years until he began Dominion Dive Club in 2007.
Dominion Dive Club has seen great successes since its inception. John has led divers
to 9 individual national championships. 3 of his divers qualified for the 2012 Olympic
Trials in 5 events, 1 diver qualified for the 2011 World Championship Trials and 1 diver
competed in the 2011 Junior Pan Am Championships in Medellin, Columbia earning
two medals for team USA. This past summer, Dominion Dive Club placed as the 6th
best overall team and 2nd best mens team in the entire country. With those finishes,
Dominion Dive Club continues to be the highest nationally ranked team on the entire
east coast of the United States. John was also the coach of Robinson High School for 4
years and coached one Virginia State Champion while in his tenure there. John has
been coaching in the NVSL for the past 11 years and has coached numerous division
championship teams as well as several teams that have been competitive in Division 1
competition.

   John began his diving career with York Dive Club at the age of 13. As a JO diver he
competed in numerous national championships. John also competed trampoline and
won age group nationals for trampoline on one occasion. John received a scholarship
to dive at NC State University but after his freshman year transferred to George Mason
University and dove on scholarship there. While diving at George Mason, John held
every team record and also qualified for finals at 3 NCAA Zone Championships. He was
also "CAA Rookie of the Year" while at GMU under the tutelage of Roland McDonald.

   John received his BA from George Mason University in Government and International
Politics with a minor in Islamic Studies. He has almost completed his masters degree
work in Education at George Mason University in order to teach Government/History at
the high school level. John looks forward to beginning this new endeavor with
Dominion Dive Club and cannot wait to work with every athlete that is joining him this
season!!

    John is entering his 5th season as the head dive coach at American University in
Washington D.C. and is also entering his 5th season with Dominion Dive Club.
John also worked with York Dive Club before joining the Dominion Dive Club family.
John also just finished his 7th summer coaching at Overlee Pool in Arlington with
95 developmental and competitive divers. He is also in his 7th season coaching for
Arlington Middle Schools.

    John was the Wally Martin 3 Meter and All Satrs Champion in 1981. John spent
several years doing high dive performances at theme parks around the country for
Maxwell Enterprises. John enjoys working with all divers of all ages and skill levels,
and teaches the human physics of diving in order to boost diver's confidence.
    Mary Yarrison begins her third year with DDC this fall, working with kids at
various levels within the program.  Her accolades include an eight-year tenure on
the USA Diving National Team, multiple Senior and Junior National titles, two
Pan-American Games titles, and an individual bronze medal and team silver at the
2007 World University Games.  Mary also represented the United States at several
Junior World Championships and FINA Diving Grand Prix's throughout her career,
and qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials in 10 meter and 10 meter synchro.

    Mary joined DDC after graduating from the University of Texas, where she
earned NCAA All American status and placed as high as Second at the NCAA
Championships.  If you were watching the 2008 Olympic Trials on NBC, you may
have noticed Mary in the competition.  She dove her way to a seventh place finish
on 3 meter and a 4th place finish in 3 meter synchro events, narrowly missing
qualifying for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

    Mary graduated from UT with degrees in English and Government in May 2008,
and moved back to her native Northern Virginia following the Olympic Selection
process. Mary has enjoyed her time thus far with Dominion Dive Club and is
looking forward to its continued success!
    Micky is entering her 3rd year with Dominion Dive Club. Micky has been coaching
since 1991.  She has a degree in Physical Education , from GMU where she played
Div. 1 Women’s Lacrosse.  She has taught and/ or coached at Robinson secondary,
Fairfax High School, and Madison HS and is currently a PE Teacher at Orange Hunt
Elementary School.  Micky is a mom of three boys, ages six, nine and twelve who,
like thier mom, are all dedicated divers.   She was on staff with NVDC for two years
where she received a grant from USA Diving to train in Mission Viejo, Calif.  She has
coached for 14 years in the NVSL and within that time lead  her  Vienna Woods team
of eight years  from Div. 5 to Div. 1.  She has been coaching at Fairfax Station for the
past five years where she built her team, the Flyers, from twenty to a new record high
of over fifty divers.  This past season they were undefeated.  Micky is now back at
Audrey Moore to coach for DDC and is excited about being part of an awesome team!
    George is entering his third season with Dominion Dive Club. He began his 6
years in Northern Virgina with York Dive Club, Hayfield Farms (summer league)
and working with area high schools Potomac, Hayfiled and Eddison he moved to
Invercargill, New Zealand where he founded Southland Springboard Diving.  After
two years abroad Diving (Largo, Fl) before setteling into an 8 year stint with
Longhorn Aquatics in Austin, Tx (the last 7 of those years as head coach).  In his
18 year coaching career he's seen many athletes compete at the countries
national championship meet (USA and in New Zealand), divers who've gone on to
compete at multiple universities, as well as divers who have qualified for states at
thier high school level, and divers who have had great success at their summer
league meets (team and individual).  His favorie place to coach is on 3m, and he  
is also a proficient belt spotter over tramplone as well as over diving boards.
    Katie is entering her 2nd season with Dominion Dive Club. She is a native of
Northern Virginia and grew up diving for Northern Virginia Dive Club. She competed
in college for the University of South Carolina for two years before transferring to the
University of Hawaii. Katie recently moved back to the Wahington D.C. area after
spending the past 6 years in San Diego. Katie loves to surf and snowboard and all
things active. Katie was the coach at Edison High School last season and
Ravensworth pool this past summer and is very much looking forward to joining
everyone again this season at Dominion Dive Club.
    Trevor is entering his 2nd year as a coach for Dominion Dive Club. Trevor has
been a coach at Ilda for the past 6 years. He is currently a junior at George Mason
University.
    During high school at W.T. Woodson, Trevor was a 3 time All-American, a 2 time
district champion and the Northern Region champion in 2008. In 2009 Trevor
competed for Virginia Tech University at the ACC Championships. Trevor grew up
diving for Bill York and York Dive Club. Trevor was a member of Dominion Dive Club
for its first year as a team and was part of our first senior class.
    Jackie is entering her 3rd season with Dominion Dive Club. She began diving
when she was ten years old, and assisted as a dive coach for the first time when
she was 15. Jackie graduated from Robinson High School where she was a 4 time
letterman on the swim and dive team, as well as a captain her senior year. She
returned to Robinson her freshman year in college to coach the dive team and is
currently a volleyball coach there now.

    Jackie is beginning her senior year at George Mason University where she is
pursuing a B.A. in History with a minor in American government. She plans to apply
to Mason's graduate school for a Master's of Education in the fall.
Before coaching with Dominion Dive Club, she worked with York Dive Club.
Stephanie has also had coaching stints with Highlands Swim Club and Paul VI
High School.

    Stephanie Sutton was and NVSL Diver since she was 8 for Lee Graham. While
there, she won All Stars 4 times. As a USA Diver she competed for Bill York and
John Wolsh before going to compete at Clarion University. While at Clarion,
Stephanie earned her BS in Communications with a minor in Coaching. She was
an 8 time NCAA All American, 4 time NCAA Division 2 Champion and 4 time NCAA
runner up. Due to these successes, Stephanie has recently been named the top
Division 2 female athlete for the past 25 years.

    Stephanie has enjoyed her time at Dominion Dive Club and looks forward to
many more years of success as the team continues to grow and mature into the
national powerhouse that it is today!
       Jamie is entering his second season with Dominion Dive Club. Jamie began
diving at the age of 6. Jamie dove with a club team based out of LaSalle University
in Philadelphia, PA from ages 8-18 and dove for Chris Bergere. Jamie won JO
Nationals as a 16-18 year old diver in 1999 and as a result was selected to attend
Junior World Championships that year.

       Jamie attended college for 3 years at LaSalle University for his club coach
Chris Bergere. When Chris left to take the job at the University of Michigan, Jamie
transferred to the University of Texas to finish out his college diving career.

       Jamie currently works at Advanced Behavioral Modeling, Inc. and is excited to
be working with all of the divers at Dominion Dive Club!
